A YA version of OUTLANDER crossed with a WRINKLE IN TIME.

Image 1Fifteen-year-old Marnie Sayebrooke is one of the last known Momenta--with the unique ability to manipulate time and space. When an ancient book and bracelet transport her to the magical realm of Anderli, she must use her newfound powers to thwart Terrsarah, a sorceress whose dark forces have unleashed the Great Famine. Quinn, a warlock-in-training, helps Marnie with defensive tactics, even though she can’t stop blushing when she’s around him. Terrsarah is fueled by a hatred of Momenta, and Marnie has to stop her before Anderli is destroyed and the universe unravels.

About Me

Image 2

Most of the time I'm a librarian, which I love, and the rest of the time I'm a writer, which I love even more. Over the years, I've received the following advice:

1. Turn off your television. (Or only watch well-scripted shows.)

2. Get a day job.

At an HR training for my day job in 2008, the content was so soul-sucking and dry that I got out a pen and started writing the novel that had been in my head for ten years. I've tentatively titled it Triskeleon, and you can read the summary here. Almost four years later, it's finally ready, and I hope to someday find it an audience.

Image 2I am passionate about YA literature, which is why I wrote an article for School Library Journal entitled "What Teens are Really Reading." I was also asked to contribute a chapter to the forthcoming Now Write! Speculative Fiction.

I write a blog, follow RSS feeds of writers, publishers, and agents (to be as informed as possible) and, after much skepticism and deliberation, created a Twitter feed. I can also be reached by email. Feel free to drop me a line!

Projects

Image

For this year's NaNo Wrimo, I completed Anderson's Curse, a novel about foster teens with superpowers.

  • Skylar--sees microorganisms
  • Scott--moves metal
  • Bryce--unknown
  • Rosie--makes glass
  • Dune--manipulates ink

When the residents at Anderson House discover they each possess a strange ability, they investigate to find the cause. Their journey leads them to Anderson's owners: Steve Brazen, and his creepier brother Harold, who captured a group of children and is holding them in the basement without light or food. As the teens at Anderson try to put together a plan to rescue them, they get unknowingly ensnared into Harold's evil plan.

In 2009, I edited a presentation on library marketing with two other librarians into a chapter in Reference Renaissance: Current and Future Trends (Neal-Schuman, 2009). It is published under my maiden name and can be accessed here.
